The first Dallas Songwriters Saturday Night at the Crosswalk is Oct. 11 from 7:30 to 9:30 pm at Angela's at the Crosswalk in downtown Plano. Harry Hewlett will host. His featured artists will be Allen Larson and Gigi Gostas.
THE DSA WILL HOST TWICE-MONTHLY SHOWCASES ON THE 2ND AND 4TH SATURDAYS OF THE MONTH in a cool venue in a neat part of DFW. Buck Morgan will be the host of 4th Saturdays at the Crosswalk, which on Oct. 25 will start an hour later at 8:30 because of Feastival Downtown Plano, which ends at 8. Each 2nd (Harry) and 4th (Buck) Saturday the showcases will unfold this way: The hosts will take the first half-hour, the first featured artists get an hour, and the closing featured artists get a half-hour. So, the 2-hour showcase, divided into minutes, is 30-60-30.
DSA members can play both featured slots. You may play the half-hour first, then play the hour slot another night, or in reverse order. And you may do both for the 2nd Saturday and the 4th Saturday.
Even better. Angela's is open until 11 pm on Saturday nights, and we've been encouraged to play later than our 9:30 end time. We look forward to extending playing opportunities to DSA members and their talented friends somewhat after our official 2-hours. These After Show Time performances will be word of mouth only, and DSA members will have priority. We want to have fun and enjoy this flexibility, but we also must be aware of our responsibility to entertain dinner guests at the Crosswalk. Our mission is to provide DSA members quality performance opportunities, to show off our talent, to attract new members and to attract good crowds to the Crosswalk.
The DSA has a lot of talented members. Truth is, we have talent hat Harry and I haven't even met. So, while we're reaching out to many of our established performers, you should also contact me about your desire to play.
You must have a full 30 minutes of original material for the half-hour and hour slots. If you don't, please come for our After Show Time, and you should be able to get a couple of songs in. However, no guarantees, and the Crosswalk may pull the plug on After Show Times if they come off as completely unpolished.
MORE IMPORTANT, if your new to DSA, you can show off your talent to Harry, me and other Board members by playing 3rd Thursday DSA Open Mic this Thursday at Dunn Bros, off Beltline in Addison, or 1st ThUrz Dallas Songwriters' Open Mic Oct. 2 at Half Price Books off Northwest Hwy. Both are from 7-9.
